Positive Thinking // Miss Olivia Says

My first semesters of senior year is flying by and it is crazy to think that in a few short months I will be done with this chapter of my life and off to the next thing. If you are a avid reader of Miss Olivia Says (hi Mom, Allie & Juliana), you’ll know that these past few months were a bit rocky for me. I went through a break up and it took me a little while to get back on my feet. I am so happy that I had my family and friends and even this blog to turn to when things were hard. As cliche as it sounds, getting over hardships like breakups or friends troubles make you a stronger person if you have the right mindset, which gets me to the point of this post: Positive Thinking.
It is so easy to get swallowed into a little hole of darkness and not want to come out when you are presented with a bump in the road. Fortunately for me, I was able to avoid isolating myself and dwelling on the past, which ultimately led me to healing and the happiness I have today! Everyone deals with things differently, and there is no right or wrong way to handle a difficult situation. Regardless if you are dealing with a hardship or just trying to get through a busy week, positive thinking is so important and it is so easy to get caught up with the negative things in your life. I wanted to provide some tips on things that help me take a step back and embrace the positive things in my life when I am down:
Reflect:
Invest in a journal (Target has a cute selection) and take time to write out all the great things in your life. Your german shepherd back home, the A you received on your last test, anything and everything in your life you are proud about. Negative energy has the power to overpower the positive things in your life so take the time and remind yourself of all the amazing things you have!
Make a Playlist:
If you’re feeling blue chances are listening to “Hello” by Adele might not be the best music choice. Make a pump-up playlist with empowering music that makes you excited and happy. Listen to your playlist in the morning when you’re getting reading and at night when you’re winding down. Music has the amazing ability to provide you with energy and happiness, so take advantage of it!
Surround Yourself With Positive People:
Don’t be afraid to remove the toxic people from your life. If they are no longer building you up there is no reason to keep those friendships or relationships. Some of the best things can happen from letting go of people who are tearing us down or holding us back. Be around people you make you laugh and want to see you succeed and be happy. To an extent there is bound to be drama comes  in friendships, but try to eliminate the people who feed off of it and drag you into their negative energy.

Relax!
If you are having a tough week and are running around like a headless chicken, don’t forget to breathe and take some time for yourself. It is easy to get caught up with the piles of homework and studying but it is important for your mental health to remember to relax. Brew yourself a cup of tea, light a yummy smelling candle, put on some fuzzy socks (works for me!), turn off your phone, and get in bed and watch your favorite Netflix series. There is nothing wrong with taking time for yourself.

Enjoy the View
Go to your favorite spot on campus, try out that cute little coffee shop down the street, sit in the park and read a book, just change up your typical scenery. If you feel like you are stuck in a rut, change it up. I know when I am feeling down, sometimes the best thing for me is to get out there and explore somewhere new and listen to music and relfect. I’m not talking about spontaneously booking a flight to Greece (but hey that would work too), I mean switching up your daily routine and finding simple pleasures in life to be appreciative of.

I hope this post helped you out! // Comment below what your favorite thing to do when you need a change in mindset!

xoxo
